Obsidian Buddy Read Chapters 12-18

Hi everyone! I have my third post from my buddy read with Olivia from Brewing Up Books. Olivia is going to be elaborating on the book much more than I am because this is her first time reading it. To view my first post click here. To view my last buddy read post click here. Once again, these will NOT be spoiler free discussions.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.Starting over sucks.

My thoughts:

From reading the rest of the series, I personally think one of, if not the, most important part of these chapters is the introduction of Bethany. Now, I really REALLY don’t want to spoil anything for the other books, so I won’t necessarily explain in depth why this is important. It does later clear up many things as well as lead to major plot events (NOT a  spoiler, I promise!). We as the readers get a huge sense of confusion by this point. Is Daemon sweet? Is he a jerk? No one can tell and neither can Katy! We do realize how loyal Daemon is to his sister when he tells Katy somewhat threateningly that she cannot delve into her and Dee’s friendship anymore than she has. In these chapters, Daemon suddenly decides to change things up by STOPPING A CAR!!!!! This is a humongous development because this is the moment that Katy discovers his secret. Now, because of her reaction to this feat of time, the audience learns something about Katy. We learn how open-hearted she can be (at least in my opinion anyhow). The fact that she only kind of freaked out is way more than could be said for what I would do. She actually thought it was cool and asked Dee to demonstrate what she could do. Both of these characters are given more depth, which allows us to connect with them in a greater way than we could previously. What do you think? Did Katy’s reaction surprise you? How about how Daemon saved her life, what did that make you think about him?

I hope your week is fantastic! Power through, the weekend will be here before you know it!

  1. Ok. Fine. You were right. I actually enjoyed this book.

And, for the record, this is the one and only time you’ll hear me say the words “you were right,” so you might want to treasure this moment.
